NHS is hosting a Blood Drive on November 10th.

This blood drive is special as it is in honor and memory of Vinai "Dewy" Jankoom, Kerri Sheehan's brother. When Dewy was 12, he was diagnosed with a blood disorder called Alpha Thalassemia, which reduces the hemoglobin in the blood and in turn lessens the amount of oxygen carried throughout his body. Due to the disorder, Dewy needed multiple blood transfusions over the course of his lifetime to maintain appropriate hemoglobin levels. To complicate things, Dewy could only receive blood that contained certain proteins, which further limited the donor pool for him. Dewy lived with an enlarged heart and spleen and later developed hemolitic anemia, and after difficult complications this last year, Dewy passed early this summer. Upon his death, in lieu of flowers or money, the family simply asked for people to donate blood because they are acutely aware of the quality of life and time that blood donations afforded Dewy and them.
NHS is honored to recognize Dewy's life with a blood drive and is asking our community to show up big in honor of Dewy and his family, including Jeff, Kerri, Xander, and Isaac!!
